Thank you's

It all starts with a tiny little seed...
I had the idea for this album now for some time but it seemed like every time I tried to put it together I would hit a snag. One day I decided I would sell my baby Sadie (my first resonator guitar) so I could hopefully get this project off the ground. As soon as I posted online about selling her there was an immediate response from folks from all over saying "dont you dare!" one of those folks was my friend Jon Coma and he decided he was going to make a gofundme page so I wouldn't have to sell my baby. Within 24 hours the goal was met. I woke up and cried because I couldn't believe there were so many people out there who wanted to see me succeed.       The next night I had a gig with my favorite bass player in the world, Taylor Smith. He's been on just about every recording I've ever done. When I told him the story, and asked him to be on my first real album, of course, he said yes, and so I started plotting out further. I decided on 15 songs to record and started imagining what instruments I wanted to help me bring these songs to life. After quite a bit of thought I came to the realization that I wanted to do an all string oriented album and I broke it down to my favorite 10 songs.
Now that I had a good idea of the sound, I needed to find the right players. Free Feral was first on my list. She's been my good friend for a few years now, and I've always had such a huge respect for her playing on the viola. I couldn't be happier to have her on this album. Next on my list was Walter Prettyman. His violin playing is extraordinary and he has a truly unique style with amazing precision. He's also my good buddy, so he was down like a clown to bring that good sound.
Next step was to find a studio. I talked to my old pal, Joseph Faison, who had just opened a new studio in New Orleans called Long Gone Studios and this project was finally starting to come to light. He had a few dates open so he put us in and we started getting it all together. The day finally came that we got to put our sounds down for the album. The band showed up to find I had brought them all hummus, chips, kombucha, grapefruit juice, and all kinds of tasty goodies to make the days delicious and nutritious. We got right to work. A few pizza breaks and two days later we were done with our part.
Joseph then mixed the album and sent to his buddy Carl Saff to do the mastering. I did an artwork contest and chose art from my good friend Asa Jones. We collaborated on what became the final piece. Then I took everything to my awesome homie, Miss Megan Harrell, and she turned all of our artwork into an actual CD package. The whole process took months and these songs have been in my head for even longer. I really can't thank everyone enough for being a part of all this. It was a great learning experience, and I'm so happy to finally hold a real CD with my music and cool artwork. Looking at it and thinking about all the people who helped me put this together makes me so happy. I love all of you from the Marianas trench of my heart. Thank you so much!!!!
